Students at Beachburg Public School are encouraged to become active in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Such participation can be a valuable component of an effective overall education. The following are guidelines which will be used to maintain a reasonable balance between the academic requirements and extracurricular activities such as sports, field trips and excursions. Students are viewed as ambassadors of the school, and compliance with the Code of Conduct is expected both prior to and during the event.
A STUDENT IN GOOD STANDING must meet the following criteria:
ATTITUDE: The student reflects a positive attitude with ALL members of the school community, both in and outside the classroom.
BEHAVIOUR: The student has consistently met reasonable behavioural expectations both in the classroom and in the school in general, and has demonstrated that he or she is responsible and reliable. The student conducts him or herself in a safe manner, respecting the safety and well-being of others.
ATTENDANCE: The student attends school regularly and is consistently punctual.
A student who wishes to join a team or club must be a “Student in Good Standing” before taking part in extracurricular activities. The granting of the Student In Good Standing status is a privilege and may be revoked at any time by the principal on the recommendation of a teacher.
Each fall BPS participates in a walk in support and in memory of Terry Fox. Students, teachers, parents and friends in the community all join to make this event a wonderful success every year.
Volleyball season is November/December. Please see the school calendar on the front of our webpage for practice dates and times.
Each year students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 participate in our Skating Program. Students from Grades 1 to 8 benefit from Power Skating Lessons from Mike Bradbury. This year, our Grade 5 and 6 class demonstrated leadership by assisting the Kindergarten classes on their skating days.
Junior Students, Grades 4 and 5 take part in a series of seven swimming lessons at Kinsmen Pool. At the end of their block of lessons, student receive a report card and a recommended swimming level.
Badminton practice gets underway after March Break for Grade 7&8 students. Practices take place at recess and after school. Please see the school calendar for practice and tournament dates.
Three-pitch softball tryouts and practices typically occur in May/June for our Grade 7&8 students. Selected students participate in a tournament held at Riverside Park. Dates and times to be determined.
Every spring BPS participates in a two-hour Jump Rope for Heart event. Through skipping and fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jump Rope for Heart teaches children the importance of healthy living and social responsibility. All students participate whether or not they choose to fundraise.
In June, the Grade 7 and 8 class will be creating a field day experience for the rest of the school. Students will set up stations for a tabloid event with a variety of games and experiences for their fellow students. This event was a favourite last year and we believe it will be a success again this year.
