Student Council: Active and Involved in Every Corner of the School
Our Student Council is far more than just a group of elected students—it is a dynamic force that works tirelessly as the voice of the student body, the engine behind school spirit, and a partner in improving our community. This year we have a very enthusiastic bunch!
1. Amplifying the Student Voice (Governance & Representation)
Our SC is actively involved in decision-making, ensuring every student's perspective is heard.
Liaison to Administration: They meet regularly with school leadership to share student concerns and advocate for change, whether it's related to school rules, lunch options, or facility improvements.
Grade-Level Representation: We have dedicated representatives for each upper grade, ensuring that the specific needs and interests of students from different stages of their school journey are brought to the table.
Policy Input: The SC plays a direct role in reviewing and suggesting changes to school policies, providing a democratic framework for student governance.
2. Driving School Spirit and Events
The SC plans and executes engaging, all-inclusive events that build a positive and energized school atmosphere.
Signature Spirit Weeks: They organize the annual theme days and spirit competitions that get the entire school involved, fostering a strong sense of pride and community.
(BPS Example: Hosting the "Halloween Hall Walk" and organizing theSpirit Days for BPS.)
3. Community Impact
Involvement extends beyond our school walls through dedicated service projects and fundraising.
Major Fundraising Drives: The SC spearheads efforts to raise money for important causes, both within the school and for local charities, showing a commitment to social responsibility.
(BPS Example: Their annual food drive at Christmas time helps our local food bank.)
Staff and Teacher Appreciation: They coordinate gestures of gratitude for our faculty and staff, recognizing their hard work and fostering an amazing school environment.
4. Leadership Development
Through their commitment, SC members gain invaluable leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Active Committees: Members are organized into working committees, giving them specific, hands-on responsibilities and the chance to lead their own projects from idea to execution.
Regular Meetings: Consistent, structured meetings ensure accountability and keep projects on track, demonstrating a professional approach to their roles.
In short, the BPS Student Council is highly active because they take on real responsibility and are empowered to make a real difference, making BPS a better place for everyone. Our staff members, Jen Phelan, Nancy Campbell and & Alison Broome look after these eager students.
