Core French and                 French Immersion

Core French

At Beachburg Public School, students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 receive 30 minutes of French instruction per day.

All French as a second language programs in Renfrew County District School Board share a common vision.

  • To use French to communicate and interact effectively in a variety of social settings;
  • To learn about Canada, its two official languages and other cultures;
  • To appreciate and acknowledge the interconnectedness and interdependence of the global community;
  • To be responsible for their own learning as they work independently and in groups;
  • To use effective language learning strategies;
  • To become lifelong language learners for personal growth and for active participation as world citizens

Through the seven fundamental concepts or "enduring ideas", skills are developed in order to create lifelong language learners.  These enduring ideas are:

  • Authentic Oral Communication: Reception, Production and Interaction
  • Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing: Interconnected but Distinct
  • Making Real-World Connections
  • Goal Setting and Reflection
  • Emphasis on Critical and Creative Thinking Skills
  • Interdependence of Language and Culture
  • Development of Language Learning Strategies

French Immersion

At this time, Beachburg Public School does not offer French Immersion.

Students interested in the French Immersion program are able to enroll in Grade 5 at one of the following elementary schools (Cobden, Highview, Rockwood, Central, Walter Zadow, General Lake, or Mackenzie).  French immersion information nights are a great way to learn more about the benefits of the program and determine its suitability for students.
