Fun For All

At Beachburg we believe in active participation for all. Students are encouraged to get active during recess through a variety of games and intramural tournaments. The gym is open during recess and students are invited to play a variety of traditional and non-traditional games. Students may also sign up for intramural teams and in-school tournaments are held throughout the year. Grade 6-7 students are encouraged to be leaders and help organize events as well as officiate.

Terry Fox Walk / Run

Each fall BPS participates in a walk in support and in memory of Terry Fox. Students, teachers, parents and friends in the community all join to make this event a wonderful success every year.

Volleyball

Volleyball season is November/December.  Practices take place at recess and before/after school.  The 2013-2014 Grade 7&8 Co-Ed team participated in a tournament at St. Joseph's in Renfrew in November. We are very proud of their efforts and accomplishments.  Our Grade 7&8 team finished 4th in the small schools tournament.

Skating Program

Each year students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 participate in our Skating Program.  Students from Grades 1 to 8 benefit from Power Skating Lessons from Mike Bradbury.  This year, our Grade 5 and 6 class demonstrated leadership by assisting the Kindergarten classes on their skating days.

Swimming Program

Junior Students, Grades 4, 5, and 6 take part in a series of seven swimming lessons at Kinsmen Pool.  At the end of their block of lessons, student receive a report card and a recommended swimming level.

Badminton

Badminton practice gets underway after March Break for Grade 7&8 students.  Practices take place at recess and after school.  The tournament will be held in early May at Fellowes High School.

Softball

Three-pitch softball tryouts and practices typically occur in May/June for our Grade 7&8 students. Selected students participate in a tournament held at Riverside Park.  Dates and times to be determined. Junior Grade students participate in the Westmeath World Series softball tournament.

Jump Rope for Heart

Every spring BPS participates in a two-hour Jump Rope for Heart event. Through skipping and fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jump Rope for Heart teaches children the importance of healthy living and social responsibility.  All students participate whether or not they choose to fundraise.

Field Day

In June, the Grade 7 and 8 class will be creating a field day experience for the rest of the school. Students will set up stations for a tabloid event with a variety of games and experiences for their fellow students. This event was a favourite last year and we believe it will be a success again this year.

Athletics

Students, especially the Grade 7 and 8 class, have the opportunity to participate in a number of teams and county tournaments throughout the school year:
September / October: Cross Country
October: Flag Football
November / December: Volleyball
January / February: Basketball
April / May: Badminton
June: Softball
